So far, this has been "the winter of our discontent" with an overabundance of snow, ice and cold. But the nasty weather outside provides an excellent reason to curl up with a book (and perhaps a cat) inside.
The worth of a book is to be measured by what you can carry away from it.
~James Bryce
To read a book for the first time is to make an acquaintance with a new friend; to read it for a second time is to meet an old one.
~Chinese Saying
On an additional "book" note, Petrea Burchard, one of my "Blogville" friends (she does Pasadena Daily Photo) has a new novel that came out today -- Camelot & Vine. Congrats to Petrea!

There's nothing to match curling up with a good book when there's a repair job to be done around the house.

Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

This makes me think that titles on the spine should be written vertically.
I read your post slowly, enjoying your book shelves and missing our books that are still in boxes in the garage. (After 7 years in our house, we still haven't bought shelves.) Then I came to the end and you mentioned me! Thank you, Ms. M, I'm honored.
I'm excited to get my copy of Petrea's book!
Excuse me, I don't see the Like button.
"Dreaming winter dreams" of your excellent poem, Anon -- thank you xxoo
Hiker: I see what you mean. To be read from up to down, like Chinese calligraphy?
Petrea: We have 7 bookcases in our house; I'm glad you enjoyed my "sampling". And with my post being about books, I just had to give you and your new book a plug! :-)
(I've often wished for "Like" buttons on blog comments!)
Margaret: I'm excited to read it too!
Mmmmmm … That's my kind of post, Ms.M. Thank you.
Oh I love books! And I love your photos of books! I'm in the opposite hemisphere so we've been getting incredible heat, fires and now storms and floods - but it's still perfect weather for curling up with a book under the air conditioning.
:)
Dive: I thought you'd like this post. Perhaps sometime you could post a view of some of your bookcases :-)
Welcome Debs! Heat, storms, fires, floods also make for good "curl up with a book" weather, inside where it's safe and cool, of course.
