A goose tale -- for Earth Day

During our walk today, we spied a family of geese in the stream.

"What do you think, Dear? Should we get out here?"

Meanwhile, another family of geese swims into view.

The first family has made their decision and is on the move.

"I dunno, are you sure we should leave? That stream was pretty nice..."

"Okay, then, here we go! I hope no cars are coming."

By now, the second family is crossing the road, hurrying to catch up with the first family. This goose couple doesn't "consult"; you can tell the one leading is in charge.

And cars, bicyclists, and walkers all stopped to watch the families as they made their way across the road to a nearby pond. The water is always better on the other side, you know.

Oooooooooohhh, they're so CUTE!
And your captions are simply perfect.
How unutterably wonderful.

Thank you, Dive. It was such a treat to be right there as they came out of the water -- and to have my camera in hand. It was funny watching the babies clamber over the curb.

such fragile boldness,
what happens to that in youngest?

old, we
look three times at whats

coming
in imagination, taking

up space
better used to--

-- but thats it- onward &
if traffic roars around un

expected turns
it'll wait

for our well-aged
boldness, forget

fragility

Oh, it reminds me of Make Way For Ducklings. That was the first book I ever read in life. How thrilling -- they really, truly do make their way around town, and so majestically that everyone respects their right-of-way. Lovely and most excellent photos, captions. Thank you, it brought me back to, well, a sacred place of innocence and wonder.

Anon, thank you for your "boldness" and your wonderful poem xxoo

Altadenhiker: Thank you for your kind words :) And glad the photos and story could bring you back to a space of innocence and wonder. Watching them did the same for me.

Your adorable feathered families made my night, Ms M. There are ducks who cross the road not far from my mum's place - I always hold my breath for them.

Thank you, Shell. Seeing these families made our day, too.
Fortunately, this road is not a major thoroughfare, and most people know to keep watch for geese and ducks in the road.
