Discovered this army while taking a walk. The form they make reminds me of abstract art, like Motherwell, or perhaps a Chinese ink painting.
And yes, we're finally back online again. Our former internet service provider had problems understanding that all we needed was to transfer our service from one residence to another -- in the same town. Nothing changed but the address. They bungled it -- and then wanted us to wait yet another week for service. So out with the old, in with the new ISP (who got us up in less than a week)! Maybe an ever growing army of ants are making their way to the corporate offices of our old ISP even as you read this....
So -- now I've got a lot of catching up to do....

Wow, when I saw this photo in the teeny version on the Google reader I did think it was Chinese ink painting! Oh those wacky ants. I don't think I've ever seen this many gathered like this before. Welcome back to the internet! Drag that the old ISP couldn't get their act together; hope the new service serves you well.
Hi Sheila, We are enjoying our new digs as we get settled, bit by bit. So your kitchen has become a tsunami of ants? Are they creating "ink paintings" across your floor? :-)
Katie, We were amazed, too, when we came across all of these ants. I wonder if they had a colony right below the sidewalk there?
And yes, the new ISP seems to be working well, and is faster than the old one, too!
