They have been glorious. But today was hot, and the spring flowers like these will fade fast. We're having a "heat" storm tonight, where the dry heat builds up in clouds during a hot day and later erupts, with hot winds, lightning and thunder. Because there is little to no rain, the lighting often starts range fires.
The storm was a lighting extravaganza last night -- and started two fires in the foothills (which were quickly contained). Unfortunately, the peony blossoms couldn't handle it. But they are about out of season by now anyway.
