Maybe the bug is hanging out waiting for the pumpkin to be turned into a jack-o-lantern so he can nibble away at the insides. I'm not big on pumpkin pie, but I once had pumpkin cheesecake that was awesome!
Actually, Shell, that isn't my pumpkin. I saw it during a walk. I'm afraid I'm a lazy pie maker, using canned pumpkin instead :)
Katie, I think you're right about the bug. He's probably searching for a "secret doorway" in. I have always loved pumpkin pie, but pumpkin cheesecake is excellent, too!

instead of a fly in a dish of
curried squash chowder, a bug
on a pumpkin's sturdy skin
won't survive pie batter
or blender blades turning pulp
to dense broth
but enjoys climb to stem, its
arctic triumph even before
chill whisks it to another
poorly located orb for
permanent
settlement
Sounds like you have a busy day ahead, Ms M!
